Learn about the Moravians of African descent who helped build the town of Salem as slaves and freed people.

Guided tours of the grounds are conducted every half hour and include:

– Reconstructed 1823 African Moravian Log Church

– African American and Strangers graveyards

– Restored 1861 St. Philips African Moravian Church (the oldest standing African American church in North Carolina)

Activities include interactive sculpture, 18th century games, ancient African games, art exhibit and companion slide show.

Displays include a Moravian Lovefeast, early 20th century cooking and heating stoves, early 20th century wiring panel and Sunday School class room with attendance sheets.
